Choosing A New Or Old Home

Moving into a new home is a stressful time for many so being organised beforehand is the key to making the transition as smooth as possible

. Whether you are choosing to move into a blank canvas new build or an old traditional home, there will more than likely be work that you want to carry out to make it your own.

There are pros and cons to choosing either of these types of housing and you need to make sure to check through them to find which would be perfect for you and your circumstances. Choosing a brand new home that has just been developed is great if you want something that has only been yours. Modern fixtures and fittings will be put in place but you need to check the prices as they are usually added on as extra rather than just having them put in. New builds tend to be smaller and not as good quality as old build houses however which is something to bare in mind if you have children.

Old builds generally have thicker walls making a great barrier between yourself and any neighbours, this is especially true if you are semi detached or in a terrace. If they have noisy children or a dog, or perhaps you yourself do, choosing an older house is the best option for keeping noise out. Of course if you do not want to have to carry out lots of DIY jobs and big jobs to get rooms completely redone this is not the best option. Often with rooms like kitchens and bathrooms people like to change them so they are new, but if you are not one for replacing kitchen tiles and ripping out old bath tubs then a new build would have this as a plus point.

Price is always an issue and it can be difficult to find what you want for your budget. Do not be tempted to go over what you have set yourself, it is so easily done and you will regret it in the long run. You should pick a comfortable figure that will still allow you room to breathe when you move in, just in case any problems arise or you need to splash the case out for something. With a new build you are putting all your money into something that should be problem free for years to come, whereas an older house may have problems in the near future so you will want to have that backup cash for renovations. Make your decision wisely when choosing and sleep on all of your decisions!
