The very first thing that you need to consider when choosing the right plan is to find the one that suits your land

. Your land characteristics will affect the entire process of home building. Instead of making your land fit to the plan you chose, you can save more by choosing a plan that fits on the type of land you have. Your primary goal when you build your own house is to save money.

You need to be open-minded when you are out looking for house plans. Look at houses not only in one angle but in different angles before you say you choose a house plan because you love how the front patio looks like. When you are open-minded, you will be able to have a chance at seeing things in a different perspective or better yet learn some things you still have not realized.

Do not base your judgment on the exterior side of the house only. Remember, between the interior and the exterior part of the house, the exterior part is essentially the easiest to change or improve whereas the interior part requires delicate plans and improvement approaches. The exterior part of the house can be changed anytime you want.

When you build your dream house, it is important that you choose house plans that have hidden potentials. Sometimes it is hard to see hidden potentials especially when your mind is preprogrammed to choose a house with no living room for example. However, even though a house plan has a living room does not mean it has no use at all and that the house is ready to be discarded among your options.

Perfect house plans do not exist especially in the do it yourself home building projects. You have to live by what you have and what available resources you can gather. If you think perfect houses exist, you are living in a fantasy world where no one else can create anything less than perfect. When you look for house plans, you need to be realistic on your expectations.

Remember, when you build your dream house, the most important aspect is that the house in itself is perfect in your taste but by no means flawless and fantasy-like.
