To celebrate holidays or anniversaries, BBQs or other types of social events can be held where the challenge coin is the item that gains you entrance. Conversely, leaving the office at the end of the day can also require presenting your challenge coin. Those standing empty handed may pay the consequences later at the bar.

Challenge coins can also serve as a type of specialized currency that is good only around the station. The "money" can feature the names of every department member, and the coins can be dispersed based on merit. Coin holders are sure to get a kick out of saying that some coin names are worth a little more than others! The coins can be traded back in for time off, new equipment, or any other kind of amenity. The place of the challenge coin has certainly not fallen by the wayside with history. They can still have a valuable place in the official ranks if they are employed with creativity.
