Interview
Interview is defined as a meeting between two or more people in which questions are asked by first party who is the interviewer to get some information from second party who is the interviewee. Job interview is therefore referred to as the meeting between the employer who is the interviewer and the potential employee who is the interviewee to discuss issues related to job.
Values and Importance of interviews
Job interviews are important for employers. It is the most important tool an employer can use to get an applicant with the right qualifications for the job. It helps the employer to have screening criteria in which all applicants are met to scrutinize the one with the required qualities which are suitable for the company. It help the recruiter to asses an applicant in relations to the skills, capability and their personalities. It also give the employer an opportunity to relay to the potential applicants issues relating to policy of the organization, the work culture and the beliefs that drives the institution. It also helps the employer to eventually select and hire an individual who has the best qualification that will help the company to achieve its goals (Doyle, 2009).
From the discussions, I learned a lot about questions which am expected to prepare for before I tend an interview session. These questions should be relating to me or to the company. For example the question about you is an important one trying to test if you can take the shortest time possible to relay to the panelists your unique selling point. The question about your strength and weaknesses help an employer to evaluate your personal attributes that make you exceeds the qualification for the job. Question about your weakness should not be taken literally but I know as a job seeker that I should try to make weakness look like my strength. Question of what do you know about the company is an important one that tries to evaluate if you are updated with in formation about the company missions and visions and if you have evaluated yourself and found out that you can fit within that particular environment (Doyle, 2009).
From the interview with the potential employer, I got information and lucrative advices which job seekers should do in the process of job hunting. There are very important interview skills and techniques that I discover from my interview with a potential employer. The employer helped me get information on how an interviewee should get prepared prior to interview date. Due to the fact that selections are always competitive an interviewee need to wholly sell his or her capabilities by effectively demonstrating and communicating his or her personality, skills and experience. The preparation techniques include prior research on vital information relating to the company because this will help in asking intelligent questions. I should also do research on the job so that I know the clear outline on the responsibilities that I will be required to handle. I should also prepare and anticipate about the possible questions that I may be asked when I face the panel such as why do you think you are the best candidate for this job.' I also learned that I should have enough practice on good communication skills to enable me express myself professionally before the panel. I also learned that dressing style should be appropriate in such a way that am expected to be very neat and polished. Time management is also another important aspect in which am expected to be on time for the interview and recommended time is about fifteen minutes before the commencement of the interview session (Doyle, 2009).The discussion also helped in understanding how best on interviewee can handle difficult questions as well as questions that an interviewee should ask the panel and questions he or she should not ask the panel.
Using the information to improve on my interviewing
The information would help me improve my interviewing skill in the following ways. I will ensure that I improve on my dressing codes to surpass other candidate because it will create first impression about me. I will also make sure that I have adequate preparations by fully researching on information relating to the company as well as possible questions I may be asked during interview session. At the panel, I will make sure that I am confident and able to maintain eye contact with the panelists while shaking hand and also while speaking. I will also improve on the closing style of interview which is also another important aspect in which I will have overview of the questions as well as making the panelist know that I expect to hear from them as regards the decision made. I also learned the significance of following up by sending an email of thank you letter with details of information discussed during interview session and also to show them that I valued their time.
Using information to improve on my interpersonal skills.
In the communication and interpersonal skills aspect I know that misunderstanding comes in when the panel is not able to receive clearly the information I intended to convey therefore I will improve by making sure that the conveyed message is specific and complete. I will include all that is required for my message to be understood well. I will also try to improve by repeating more than once while using various interpersonal communications such as use of pictures, non verbal sign so that the panelist could understand me better.
This collaborative discussion as well as interview with the potential employer has helped me understand all the expected things I should know as a prospective employee in various organizations as regard interview session. These new information will help me improve in my interview skills as well communication and interpersonal skill when conducting interview with an employer because I have know all that is expected of me as a potential applicant.
