Combating the Menace Of Garden Pests The Natural Way

Garden pests have become a serious problem that all lovers of plants must find a

solution to if they want to actually realize their dreams of getting the best garden they have always desired. We always wish they are not there to mar the beautiful environment we have created, but you cannot always do without them, though we can check their activity which is what we should do.

Generally garden pests are attracted by dirty and unkept environments; they thrive on waste products, especially decaying and odor giving organic materials. Keeping your garden clean all the time will keep most garden pests at bay. This is a sure way and a simple but effective tip which you must note and follow all the time.

Nature is so kind to us in that, there are some natural mechanism put in place by Mother Nature to combat the destructive attitude and activities of garden pests. They are things we do not pay attention to, many of us even try to stop them out of ignorance, but then if you can plan your own activities around them, you stand the chance of getting rid of pests completely out of your plant domains.

Some of these activities includes but are not limited to

i. The boring activities of earthworms; They free the soil by their stirring, thus creating holes and freeing up the soil for easy air circulation which helps in decaying organic matters fast and the in the process prevent the activities of pests. As a gardener you should do those things that encourage earthworm activities.

ii. The eating habits of birds; Many birds feed on these pests or generally on insects, birds like robins, meadow larks, sparrows, etc are good examples in this area, they help a lot in depopulating the seemingly unstoppable insect kingdom.

iii. Some insects do feed on other insects, and many times these victims are the harmful ones which we want eliminated, when you see insects like ladybug and icheneumon-fly you will really notice this. The toad too, though not an insect but a very common friend to all gardeners do feed on some of these troublesome pests.

Knowing or having information like this, you will be spared from spending unnecessarily on controlling pests; all you need to do is to encourage their activities. The more they perform these activities, the more you benefit.

You should therefore make your garden more attractive to birds and other insects predators; things like birdhouses, a shade and a dark damp environment under stone will be okay for toads.

Deliberately creating this atmosphere in your garden will immediately attract them and surely they will feed on the insects preying on your precious flowers and devour them progressively, since they do not feed on flowers you do not need to be afraid of garden pests anymore.
