Commercial electrician Charlotte

Commercial electrician Charlotte . Hi this is Tom harp with Providence electric . We are an electrical service company here in Charlotte North Carolina . What does that mean ? That means that the type of work we primarily specialize in , involves additions , repairs and maintenance on existing commercial buildings . We don't do any new construction commercial electrical . We don't do any new construction residential electrical . We specialize on a particular type of electrical installations and repairs so that we can offer the highest quality electrician to you for your specific needs . The typical commercial service electrician may face a wide range of problems and or installation requests on a daily basis .

There are many electricians that do new construction electrical projects that have worked on these jobs for many years sometimes up to 10 or 20 years . Over that 10 or 20 year time. They may have been employed as an electrician who did the installation of commercial wiring inside walls of buildings being constructed . They may have even come back after the walls were completely finished and painted and installed all of the electrical devices and light fixtures . After a person has done this type of work for 10 or 20 years they are very proficient at the installation of electrical cabling and or electrical devices . If you take that same commercial electrician and put him inside a finished building and ask him to add a receptacle or a light to a finished building and he has had no experience doing so you may have better luck asking a plumber to do such a job . That is a bit of an exaggeration but I have interviewed many electricians over the years who have told me that they could come in and work for our company doing any electrical work that they were asked to do . During the interview process I ask specific questions to determine whether or not this commercial electrician that lives here in the Charlotte area is actually capable of adding things or repairing things in an existing structure .

Many times it takes an extreme amount of creativity and tenacious willingness to get the job done in order to provide the service repair or installation that the customers requesting . Many times when we go out to a building the customers make a request and then immediately say I have no idea how you're going to get these wires in the wall I simply want the electrical outlet in the area that I needed to be . And this is as it should be . The electrician that comes out to an existing structure , that is occupied by tenants going about their normal daily business routine , needs to be able to have a specific set of skills knowledge and experience that are applicable to the situation that he finds himself in . Simply being able to understand electrical circuitry and make electrical installations in a building that is not finished is certainly not enough experience to be able to run an electrical commercial service truck . Along with his normal set of basic electrical skills that are necessary to do your run-of-the-mill electrical installation .

A commercial service electrician also needs many other skills and I will list them in this blog post . One of the first and most primary skills that a good commercial electrical service technician needs , is the ability to deal well with the customers and present himself in a professional manner . You can have all of the knowledge and experience in the world about electrical installations . And yet if you don't know how to properly address and converse with the customer all of your knowledge and experience is worthless . Many people working as service technicians highly undervalue the impact that their dress hygiene and personal appearance play in the over all value placed on the job . People are not simply paying an electrician to come out and fix an electrical problem or add an electrical device to their office or building unit . People want to have a good experience with their electrician when he comes out . For the electrician this is just another job where he's going out to do some electrical task and many times the commercial electrician is focused overly on the task at hand and not necessarily focused on the customer at hand .

For the customer this is a somewhat exciting and entertaining diversion in what is normally a mundane workday around the office . The customer may have all kinds of expectations about what will happen when the electrical service technician shows up to his commercial building to make an installation or repair . For every customer this is different and of course with each individual and expectations differ . But one thing is for certain the customer is looking at the interaction between the electrician and himself as an opportunity for him to meet someone interesting and to be treated with respect and dignity , as well as possibly receiving some kudos or prestige from his coworkers or boss for choosing such a great electrician . I have seen many commercial electricians over the years show up to do a service job with the attitude of , I am here to do an electrical job , I am not necessarily here to be your friend , I am too busy to be your friend , my task is to irritating for me to be nice to you at this current time, simply show me where the electrical problem or installation is so that I can get my task done and get out of here . There are certainly many other places that I would rather be , and you are simply a means to an end in getting me there . This type of attitude makes me sick , for a multitude of reasons . At Providence electric I would never hire individuals with such an attitude . The commercial electricians that come out to your job to do and installation or repair , should be dressed appropriately , and have a good attitude towards you as the customer , more poorly than having a good attitude towards you as a customer , is the fact that they have a good attitude towards you as a person .

That is where the fundamental problem lies in many commercial electricians and people in general . They tend to look at other people simply as a means to an end to get something that they need to satisfy some desire or need that they may have . Rather than going through life showing respect each individual simply because they are another person who wants to be happy , have a good day , and is in fact trying to help the electrician by providing a livelihood for . So now that I've covered the most important aspect of being a commercial electrician which has absolutely nothing to do with electrical work , I will move onto the next aspects of qualifications for the electricians that we hire here at Providence electric . Of course the next qualification after having social skills and being able to present yourself properly at the job on time with a good attitude and a genuine care and consideration for the person and customer that is standing before you .

Second would be and experience level that is adequate to deal with the different problems and situations that arise on a daily basis doing electrical service installations and or repairs . On any given day one of our electricians may go to his first call and it may be wiring office cubicles so that they have electricity , the very next call may be a commercial restaurant that is having electrical problem in the kitchen , the very next all may be a residential call where a customer wants a ceiling fan added to their bedroom , the very next call may be a commercial office building where there florescent lights and ballasts are causing them troubles . The point is that the scope of work on a daily basis can vary dramatically . Nobody can be fully trained to encounter every electrical problem that they may come in to contact with . They have to rely on their general knowledge and experience in the electrical trade of how things work and how they're put together . As well as an extensive knowledge of the national electrical code . I believe though that what is very important for the electrical technicians that we employ is the ability to look at a situation that you may have well never dealt with before in your life . And in that moment in that situation realize that you are the individual that is expected to bring this problem to a satisfactory completion . Having an individual out in the field that is been trained in a certain aspect or phase of electrical installation and has been stuck in that particular niche of the electrical wiring field , can lead to very unsatisfactory results such as a person who gives out into the field and inside of their mind they are saying this is not my job , I have no idea how to do this , or for example a commercial electrician goes out to her restaurant that has a basement , the customer is complaining that the sump pump for the basement has shut off and waters gathering in the basement. Some pumps are plucked and cord connected pumps that pump out water when the level reaches a higher level than the float switch is set for .

A normal commercial electrician may go out and test the electrical outlet that the sump pump is attached to , after determining that the outlet is in good working order and that power is being delivered to the sump pump up to he then delivers a bill to the customer for hundred and $25.00 for an electrical service call and leaves them with 6 inches of water in their basement . A good commercial service electrician would go there with an intent of trying to fix the problem to the best of his abilities . He goes into the basement and determined that the electrical some pump that is there is burned up . It has a simple hose attachment on it such as a garden hose that runs outside to a place where the water is to be pumped . He then takes the sump pump unplugs it and unhooks it from the water hose and takes it to his local Home Depot or Lowes , purchases a new pump takes it back plugs it in and like magic the basement is dry . The time that it took to drive and get the pump is billable time to the customer , as well the pump is sold to the customer at a higher price than it was purchased for as is the normal course of business . Now in this case the commercial electrician did exactly what he was supposed to do .

The commercial electricians job is to go out to the job and to the best of his abilities to solve whatever problem the customer seems to be having . When we say to the best of his abilities that would certainly mean that even though he is a commercial electrician his duties on the job to not just stop at being a commercial electrician . This concept of that's not my job I'm in electrician is somewhat mystifying to me as an individual but if certainly widespread among people in the various trades . In fact this attitude and opinion comes from years of working on job sites doing new construction work . On these job sites and in decent environments the commercial electrician is taught constructive and drilled into his brain that the only thing that he is to be doing out on that job are tasks that fall into the normal course of business for a commercial electrician on a construction site . His employer certainly does not want to pay him to help do the HVAC or plumbing installation on the jobsite .

Therefore there has to be a very clear distinction of what tasks and duties are assigned to each individual trade and what are not . The us you end up with individual commercial electricians on jobsite who are programmed to say that's not my job on a daily basis . Unfortunately many of these electricians decide to become service electricians . This baggage or previous experience that has been ingrained into their psyche many times follows them into the service industry . This is certainly something that I stress to my men that they need to put away and forget about when they go into the service industry field . They are no longer dare to simply do electrical work and to hold some overinflated sense of pride in the fact that they do electrical work and only electrical work . It is rather silly in fact when you consider that they need to be able to clean up after themselves , many times we patch the holes in the walls that we have made as a courtesy to the customer , many of the situations that I have found myself and working as a commercial electrician in Charlotte have been very interesting in the fact that most of the tasks that I perform have very little to do with actually making electrical connections . I may have to stand in a particular spot for 20 minutes or longer simply contemplating the best way to add a wire to an existing structure without significantly damaging the walls . This is a clear example of how this job is most jobs is not simply a simple set of skills that are word and trained over a few years . It is a general willingness and desire to overcome obstacles in a creative way and to accept responsibility for the task at hand and the competent and satisfactory completion of that task .
