Here are just a few questions you should be able to answer before you get started:

- What materials and equipment will you need before you make your first dollar?

- How are you going to get your first customer?

- How many customers will you need to pay your daily bills?

- How many people will you need to hire?

- What insurance and licenses will you need to start your business?

How do you answer these and many other questions? By reading about your business and talking to others with real experience. It will be easier to learn before you start than to realize what you don't know after you begin.

Second, a business required commitment. Like a marriage, there will be good days when you are happy and bad days when you wonder why you got into this in the first place.

Are you the type of person who can commit to getting things done? Some days you are going to feel sick, you'll feel like nothing is ever going to work out. Are you the dedicated business leader that works day after day until the job gets done?

Most people would rather sit back, take a well deserved vacation and reward themselves. But, if you are starting a business, you'll need to spend many hours each day to become successful. Every business starts out as a complete failure. It's the daily struggle of the owner that makes the transition from failure to success. Are you that type of person?

Third, you'll need support to succeed. Do you have a support network? You should have friends and family who are supportive. Even if they don't know much about your business, they should be able to encourage you and make you want to persevere.

Having a cheering section helps a team play harder. You need a cheering section, even if it's only one person. Make sure you have a support group. It could mean the difference between giving up and reaching your goals.

Consider these important areas as part of your evaluation of the business field you are considering. You may realize that it will be easier than you think, or you may realize it's not for you. Reaching these conclusions before you begin can mean the difference between the joy of success and the disappointment of failure.
