The cost is probably more of a concern to your parents if they are paying. If you are paying, you will want to budget carefully. If you find an apartment that is an addition to someone's home, negotiation the price of the rent might lower costs. Having your parents with you might make them assume that they will be paying the bill. If they think this, they might be tempted to charge more.

Your home away from home should be a place where you can get a good night's rest, study, and even have a few friends over now and then. This is where condition comes in. The apartment you rent should be safe. You should not have to worry about mold, bugs, or fire hazards because the apartment is not to code. Make sure that is safe and that you will be comfortable there and able to focus on your work.
