a.Alcohol and Tobacco. Caracas' ranks as top 38th in 300 when it comes to alcoholic beverages in public places or even sales of beer, whiskeys and other locally distilled spirits.

Another high cost item in the city is tobacco because of the high taxes imposed on these items.

b.Clothing. Because much of its clothing supplies are sourced overseas, the cost of clothing in the city is ranked 175th comparatively to 300 other countries. Clothes such as business suits, casual clothing, children's apparel, coats and hats, evening clothes, shoes and underwear.


c.Communication. Costs as to telephone rental, call charges, Internet connection and associate fees are less expensive to 300 other countries. Caracas ranks 282nd overall, making communication and interconnectivity costs low in the city.

d.Furniture and Appliances. This cost though is amongst the highest in the world, with a garnered ranking of 22nd out of 300. Thus, it would be rather expensive to purchase furniture, household appliances and other equipment in Caracas. High technology products such as DVD players, refrigerators, iron, kettles, toasters, microwave ovens, light bulbs, televisions, vacuum cleaners and washing machines are well above the average income earner in the city.

e.Groceries. These include all items consumable that is non-alcoholic in nature. These include staple foods, baked goods, canned items, cheese, dairy, fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, oil and other spices and additives. The ranking of the city is 84th out of 300 for pre-cooked meals, sauces, seafood, softdrinks, snacks and other consumables.

f.Utilities. The costs for rentals, water, electricity, gas and fuel fall within this group. Because of the relative infrastructure limitations, the costs for these items are amongst the highest in the world with a ranking of 27th out of 300. These include household water consumption, local property taxes and other costs.

g.Healthcare. Part of the general cost of living is healthcare. These include healthcare, medication and medical insurance and payment for doctor's fees and hospitalization costs. While this is not a regular cost, it is a mandatory cost when the opportunity arises and when in Caracas, it may be quite expensive as it ranks 66th out of 300.

h.Transportation. In order to get around, one needs to pay for transportation. These include cost of vehicle, maintenance, fare costs, fuel requirements and other attendant costs are amongst the lowest in the world as Caracas ranks 246th out of 300 cities.
