Could Liposuction Enhance My Bust?

, I must, I must increase my bust." Amid all of the different claims for products or procedures that may be able to increase the size of one's breasts comes one fairly unusual one: liposuction.

Liposuction (also known as lipoplasty and suction lipectomy) is typically a procedure concerned with making things smaller. When most people think of lipoplasty, they think of slimming their stomach or trimming their thighs. The surgery accomplishes this by vacuuming the fat right out of the body. However, recently, scientists have begun to find that there might be a way to effectively reuse the fat that has been removed from the body by replacing it in another part of the body.

Of course, it is no surprise that the bust is one of the very largest areas of interest for this sort of surgery. In many ways, the American dream may no longer be to own one's one house with a white picket fence. At least for a lot of women, the dream is to have D-cup breasts and a twenty-eight inch waist. For most women this is impossible through natural means. Nature simply did not intend for most women to have that sort of figure. However, this surgery may be able to help move fat around to get the results that a woman wants.

The idea of transferring fat from one part of the body to another is by no means new. Women have frequently wished that they could just rearrange the location of their fat. The first recorded attempt at a surgical fat transfer happened in Europe during the 1800's. The idea has been revisited frequently during the latter half of the 1900's For the most part, though, these attempts have produced poor results.

In most of these attempts, large amounts of the fat died, leaving unusual lumps and hard spots in the breasts. This fat death can happen during the trauma of being removed from the body. However, even more difficult is the task of getting the fat to survive after it has been replaced in its new environment. Without adequate blood supply, large numbers of fat cells invariably die.

New techniques may offer some solutions to this. Gentler methods of removal can sometimes keep as much as 90% of the fat alive as it is taken out of the body. There are also techniques which help to ensure the survival of fat after it is returned to the body. One new technique converts some of the fat into stem cells before injecting them into the breasts. In theory, this allows the fat to develop a new blood supply and to stay alive. Time will tell whether or not this technique lives up to its promise.
