Creating An Elegant Ballroom
No one element creates an elegant ballroom
No one element creates an elegant ballroom. Instead, every little detail must work together to create an awe factor when guests see it for the first time. There are so many styles of design, however for an upscale setting that befits tuxedos and gowns, the following may be a starting point for decoration.
Clearly the first decision is the venue. A plain white banquet room in a hotel is still going to be a plain backdrop for a celebration, no matter how many decorations you use. For a truly elegant event, consider a venue that has hand-cut brick walkways, arches that were designed according to the Italian masters. Marble, cherry wood finishings, chandeliers - each of these elements will create the tone for your celebration.
After the venue has been chosen, the next big factor is going to be lighting. While lighting will enhance the mood of an indoor celebration, it is imperative to ensure there is adequate lighting for outdoor venues. Be sure to tour the venue at the time of day your celebration is going to occur. You may want to bring in additional lighting, not just for mood, but to ensure your guests can see the dance floor. This can be done in the form of tiny white lights woven through bushes and trees or through silk lanterns hanging elegantly over the main seating area.
Lighting doesn't end at overhead lighting. Centerpieces can be one of the main sources of light and can cast a beautiful warm glow over table and guests. Some of the most dramatic centerpieces stand tall, towering over the guests, with fresh flowers tying in the color scheme of the event. Candles can be set around the centerpiece or incorporated into it. Swarovski crystals floating in club soda will appear to dance, or crystals may be incorporated into the floral design with candles catching the light.
Banquet tables should be set to perfection. Linens can include crushed organza, hand beaded taffeta or pin-tucked satin. Many choose underlay linens to bring in the color scheme and use an elegant overlay that is more dramatic to finish the look. For the head table, swag linens draw attention to the most important place in the room. Some couples choose to have the head table raised higher than the others. Chairs can be tied with bows to add another layer of beauty. Bone china with gold rims creates a simple elegant look that won't distract from the floral arrangements, while adding an element of luxury. Crystal glass chargers and wine goblets reflecting the candle adornments on the table will twinkle and sparkle.
DJs are often equipped with lights that can enhance the mood. For example, the DJ may use a monogrammed spotlight for the couple's first dance. Other lighting can be used to create a star-studded feel.
The cake table also garners quite a bit of attention. Be sure both the cake and the table are decorated elegantly. This may mean having fresh cut flowers adorning the cake, or sprinkled around the cake. Another suggestion is to have a custom topper made.
In order to design the elements of an elegant ballroom, it is crucial to have both vendors and a venue that understand your vision and can take it to the next level. There is no limit to the charm, grace and ornateness that can be created through wedding decor.
