Today the job of a medical assistant is expected to grow much faster. It is ranked as one of the fastest growing occupations in the next ten years with its thirty four percent (34%) growth rate. Educational Requirement

In some areas medical assistants are required to have one (1) to two (2) year medical assisting programs while others are trained on the job. There are also medical assisting programs offered in vocational-technical high schools, post-secondary vocational schools, community and junior collages.

A minimum of a high school diploma is needed. Medical assistants are different from physician assistants, these are the ones who examine, diagnose, and treat patients under the direct supervision of a physician.

Work Description

As a medical assistant, it is your job to perform administrative and clinical task for the medical practitioner that you work for. But it may vary and would depend on the location and how big the practice is. The specialty of the practitioner would also make your job different he or she maybe a physician, podiatrist, chiropractors, and other health practitioners. You might also be working directly under a supervisor, physician, or other health practitioner.

As a medical assistant, you can choose from these different areas of specialization but no matter what specialization you are going to do the phone recording device is a great tool to use.

The first specialization is that of a clinical medical assistant. Your duties will include taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, assisting physicians during examinations and explaining treatment procedures to patients. These are some of the responsibilities of a clinical medical assistant. Another is an administrative medical assistant. They are the ones who will update and file patients medical records, fill out insurance forms, arrange for hospital admissions if needed and to request for laboratory services. They also perform as a secretary by doing work like answering telephones, greeting patients, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and bookkeeping. Of the these specializations the administrative medical assistant is the one who would most often use the phone recording device. It is a great help because it can record both sides of the conversations. Plus it is also easy to save from the device to the computer.

There are still different specializations like the optometrist assistants, ophthalmic medical assistants, and pediatric medical assistants. They have different duties and responsibilities. Basically they are there to help or assist the medical practitioner to give the best care that they can give to their patients. With the use of the phone recording device the patients is assured that their care is the topmost priority of the physician. As the medical assistant you will be able to keep proper documentation for any patient because you will be able to add new recordings to the original recordings without destroying the original.
