DTEA stands for Delhi Tamil Education Association. Tamilians have played a major role in contributing to simple, holistic education in Delhi. It was started to inculcate and preserve the true values of Tamil culture in a world of Hindi speaking people.

The concept of Tamil School started on a Vijay Dashmi Day in the year 1923. The Tamil Schools in Delhi are providing excellent quality education to the Tamilians and also to others in general. The school was given due recognition by the education authorities in the year 1925. The primary school was raised up to Middle School in 1945 and to the Higher Secondary in the year 1946. W.Christie Esq. Chief Commissioner of Delhi laid the foundation stone for the Middle school on 6th October 1945.

The school presented the First Batch for the Higher Secondary Education in the year 1949. The appearances for higher secondary education continued till 1955. In 1956, the Higher Secondary Department was shifted to Lodhi Estate. Since 1959, the school has been functioning as higher secondary school. In the year 1972, there was a change in the name of the Association. The name was changed from Madrasi Education Association to Delhi Tamil Education Association. Later the schools were also renamed as DTEA Higher Secondary Schools.

The school was raised to the Senior Secondary level in the year 1977. The school follows the CBSE syllabus and prepares students for 10th and 12th class. The school also offers arts, commerce and science streams. The school is affiliated to the CBSE. There are 7 DTEA Schools. These are Mandir Marg, Ramkrishna Puram, Lodhi Estate, Laxmi Bai Nagar, Pusa Road, Moti Bagh and Janakpuri. Four languages are taught. These languages are English, Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit.

DTEA Senior Secondary School, Mandir Marg has the distinction of being the mother of all the schools run by the Delhi Tamil education Association. The institution has been serving the community for the past seven decades. The school has produced one of the best results ranging from 90% to 100%. The school bags sizable number of positions in the professional colleges of the country. DTEA Mandir Marg has received the Delhi State First Position for more than five times.

The school produces 90% results in board examinations. The students of Mandir Marg DTEA have occupied eminent positions in all walks of life. Shri. K. Surya Narayanan was the principal from 1946 to 1956 and received the national and the state award in the year 1966. He was a well known mathematician and a strict disciplinarian. The infrastructure of the school is upgraded periodically. There is a very good computer lab, biology lab and a physics lab. The library has a collection of about six thousand books.
