The DTEA Senior Secondary School was started as a primary school in September 1961. The school was raised to Middle School status in 1963. Initially the school was functioning under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Municipal Corporation till May 1970. Later the school attained Higher Secondary Status and came under the Directorate of Education, Delhi Administration. The school is from standard 1 to Standard 12.

Initially, the students had to study in impoverished tents. The children were exposed in varying measures to the vagaries of the weather. The President of the DTEA, Shri G.Bhuvarahan, MP, took a firm initiative and organized steps for the construction of the building.

On 23rd April 1972, Dr Kalaignar Thiru M Karunanidhi, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu laid the foundation stone of the proposed building. Since then work on the building has been proceeding at a steady pace.

The most substantial contribution to the cost of the building has come from the Government of Tamil Nadu. After appeals from the PTA, a number of friends and well-wishers have sent in contributions towards the school. The PTA has organized many functions. The school has organized many functions for raising funds.

DTEA Senior Secondary School has 640 pupils. Half of them are girls. The school has a teaching staff of 27. The ministerial staff is of 8 people.

The Delhi Tamil Education Association Senior Secondary Schools are seven secondary schools that are located in Delhi. DTEA was initially registered with the Madrasi Education Association (MEA) in 1919 in Shimla by a group of Tamilians. The Group of Tamilians wanted to teach their children traditional Tamil values. The first school was established in 1923. The small community in Delhi raised funds for the second building. At present, the DTEA consists of seven senior secondary schools with 7,000 students and 500 teachers.

The DTEA Senior Secondary School runs seven senior secondary schools. The schools are located at Mandir Marg, Lodi Estate, Lakshmibai Nagar, Moti Bagh, Karog Bagh, R.K. puram and Janakpuri. The DTEA follows the policy of taking education to the doors of the children by providing schools in convenient locations. The schools are aided minority institutions that are owned and managed by the DTEA at Lodhi Estate and are all registered under the Societies Registration Act. The schools are primarily meant for Tamils.

The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education. The school is recognized by the directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi.In all the seven schools, the four languages, English, Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit are taught.
