Decisiveness Not Distress; A Key To Success
Decisiveness Not Distress; A Key To Success
In today's world, the amount of responsibilities a person has is constantly on the rise. There are increasing demands on a person to fulfill their duties on the job, spend time with family and friends, accomplish personal goals, complete work around the house, and so on. For many people, just thinking about all the things that need completed in a day can create a feeling of being overwhelmed. When our mind gets stressed, frustrated, or overwhelmed it tends to shut down and the end result is procrastination.
Let me share with you a key to success I have learned having to juggle many responsibilities while growing my business. I believe the key to success is decisiveness not distress. I'm sure you have heard the expression "if you want something done give it to a busy person." Why is this statement true? I believe it is true because busy people are decisive people and they spend very little time in the decision making process. Unproductive people spend their time worrying about what they need to do and how they are going to accomplish all their responsibilities. Productive people on the other hand, constantly move forward because they are quick to decide on a task and then they immediately take action to accomplish the goal.
Here are a few simple techniques to increase your productivity. First, get clear on your responsibilities and/ or tasks that you need to accomplish. The best way to do this is by asking yourself every morning, "what do I need to get done today?" Write your answers down and formulate a list. Next, prioritize your list by creating a hierarchy of the most important tasks to the least. Unproductive people typically start with the easiest task first. If you want to make great progress on your goals, it is always best to do the opposite and start with the most difficult or demanding task first. Now that you have prioritized list, spend 5 minutes doing self-hypnosis and visualize yourself completing the tasks in a very positive and motivated way. After those 5 minutes are up, take immediate action on the first task. Once it is completed, refer back to your task list and begin working on the completion of priority number 2 and so on. The purpose of creating a prioritized task list is to reduce the procrastination time in between activities. When you are clear on what needs done, little time is required to decide what to do next. However, even though you make a list, you must choose to act decisively and work on developing that decision making muscle inside of you. Every day you act decisively the more productive you will become.
One last thing, often people ask themselves, "What should I be doing right now to achieve my goals?" The answer that often comes to mind is "I don't know." If you find yourself in this position of not knowing what to do ask yourself this question, "I know I don't know what to do right now but if I did know I would do" I know this question is a little odd however it will produce an answer for you. Ask and you shall receive. When your mind creates an answer, don't hesitate, take immediate action and you will find yourself being more productive in your day. Remember when we have lots of responsibilities stress overwhelms, limits, and prevents us from success however decisiveness empowers, inspires, and produces positive results. Decisiveness, not distress, is the key to massive success.
