Did You Know There Is A Free Government Phone Service?

The society of today that is heavy with crime makes it necessary for each member

of the family to have a cell phone, no matter what their age or profession. But is it always possible for each family member to have a separate mobile phone? The answer for most of the people would be "no". These days, it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to sustain even the most basic cost of living, let alone things like cell phones. The price of almost everything has gone way up due to the recent economic recession. But at the same time it is essential that you stay in touch with friends and family at all times to make sure that they are safe able to stay in touch with you at all times. If you are staying at a different town or your aged parents are living alone, it becomes even all the more important to have a cell phone and stay in contact with them in case any emergency arises.

But, thankfully enough, there is now a free government phone service according to which the people who qualify receive free phones from the government. This free government cell phone service is available in all states of the country but the different states have different qualifying criteria. For the states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Maryland, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Washington, Rhode Island, Nevada, Iowa, Texas or West Virginia, if anyone wishes to apply for the free cellular phone service, they must be already participating in any of the government assistance programs like Medicaid, Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), or National School Lunch Program (NSLP). You can also qualify based solely on Household Income being at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Under this program, the applicant would receive a free handset and various facilities like the ability to make local and long distance calls, send and receive text messages, access call directory assistance, 911 and voicemail. In most of the states this program is absolutely free of cost. But for the residents of Oklahoma, there is a $1 per month charge for the cellular service and in Texas, there is a $30 activation fee. Getting this service is very easy as you just have to contact a service provider on line, fill out the simple application forms and your phone will be sent to you ready to use.
