Different Types Of Products For Self-tanning
The popularity of fake tan seems to have grown dramatically over the past few years
, with the worry over skin damage from too much sun exposure adding to the advantages of self tanning. Not only does fake tan give you a really nice glow but it also makes you appear slimmer, all in all making you feel much better about your appearance.
Because of this sudden increase in demand for fake tan there are now so many different fake tans on the market that it can all be a bit of a blur. Heres an explanation of each type of fake tan and their individual benefits.
Cream
The original and most common type of fake tan, creams are easy to apply and tend to have a moisturising element too, however, some fake tanning creams can have an odd smell and can take a while to dry, and beginners to self-tanning may find it difficult to avoid streaks. Many women like to apply these before bed to prevent them staining clothes and rubbing off.
Gel
Using a gel fake tan will give a more glistening finish than a cream version and as it has a wet look when being applied you can usually see where you have used the gel, which helps to prevent streaking and missing patches. Some gel fake tans can take a while to dry and leave an oily finish to the skin, so are best applied before going to bed to avoid staining clothes.
Spray
Although typically associated with beauty salons, there are many self-tan sprays around now and are usually seen as one of the easiest types to apply. Using a light misting spray, spray tans tend to give a lighter tan than other kinds of fake tans, although they do dry faster and are less prone to streaking. When applying you need to be careful with the spray direction, otherwise you can stain surrounding objects.
Mousse
Probably one of the easiest types of fake tan to apply, mousses however are not all that common despite their advantages over other types. With a thick mousse consistency, they are very easy to apply and give great coverage, as well as drying quickly, however beginners to self-tanning may find it difficult to work out where they have already applied the mousse.
Moisturiser with tan
They hit the market a couple of years ago and moisturisers with a hint of self-tan have really taken off. Combining a body moisturiser with a small amount of fake tan, they tan and moisturise at the same time, which means they achieve a smooth and soft finish. Some can take a while to dry and have a tacky finish so are best applied overnight, while others dry quickly but have a light tan effect. Tinted moisturisers are best used over a period of time to gradually build up a tan.
