The short increase in metabolism which is produced by exercise helped further increase the effects of high metabolism and the population was mostly healthy. Currently those rates of high metabolism have plummeted to where the majority of the individuals don't have a high metabolism, increasing the rate of obesity. The small boost that had been created through the safe weight loss method of exercise has little impact on an individual who doesn't have a high metabolism, making techniques such as diet and exercise obsolete.
So the focus of healthy weight loss must be turned away from the methods of the past and must now focus on new solutions available to battle the lack of high metabolism. With this new high metabolism focus the weight loss community might be capable of finding solutions which would affect a greater number of people. Many leaders in the weight loss community have already recognized the benefits of high metabolism and started to find solutions.
