Do A Mind Sweep And Spare Room For New Things
Have you ever think that you have put too much thing into your mind
? It seems that you have so many things to do but you cannot remember everything, and when you realize what you have forgotten, the best time of doing it has gone.
Or have you got some bills to pay, most of which are sent electronically, but you tend to remember the day of the bills you have paid but finally miss the day you have to pay?
Then you might need a mind sweep. Its like you are facing with a messy room. You have to clean it up before you put more things into it. Doing a mind sweep can help you clear away things that disturb you and do things more effectively.
Find a weekend that you dont have too much thing to do or no others can disturb you. Prepare a pen and some pieces of paper, or if you like doing this on your computer, thats ok.
Then sit down. Write down everything in your mind like you are checking everything before cleaning up a room. Write down things that you are trying to remember, things are doing or just about to do, and something that will be a distraction to your mind and work.
They dont have to be sequential or put in order, but anything you can remember. You dont have to worry about filtering anything or duplicating. Just get them out of your head onto paper.
Then sort out what you have written down. If you use your computer, you can use the Cut and Paste. If you use notes, you can find a pair of scissors and several envelops so that you can put items in the same category into one envelop.
1.Tick out things that you can finish in the next five minutes, and put them together.
You will be astonished by so many items just disappear by doing this. Just use the Cut and Paste to put them into a same story editor or file, or cut your notes, and put into an envelope.
And then place the left stuff into separate files or envelopes according to how you deal with them. Here are the key categories that I use.
2.Trash. If you think it over and find it not that important or things that you dont have to do any more, like the old magazines or newspaper, just trash it. If you just wont read them anymore, why keep them?
3.To-do list.
Its usually things that important but needs more time or more care. Think about it and transform it into something that you can do without adding more troubles into your life.
4.Schedule and calendar.
Put your important appointments or dates on someday in the future to your calendar using the calendar reminder or time tools, and then forget about it.
5.Projects that important and has to be done.
Its a list for things that important but cannot be got it done in one shot so that when you finish all the stuffs, you can go through this list and see what the concrete thing you can do to move this forward. Then put those single things into your to-do list and finish them.
6.References.
Its something youll need to have someday when you deal with the stuffs. Find a place for storing such documents like a filling cabinet or a separate file in your computer. Then you dont have to spend too much time in searching the relevant information.
You can also use other categories when necessary, and after dealing with the thoughts in your mind, you can find yourself more focus and less distraction while working on something.
Its the last week of this year; why not spend the weekend doing your own mind sweep for the coming new year?
