Do It Yourself - Build A Swing Set
If you should think about your childhood years then you may have known what the experience feels like to use a swing set. A swing set is a mechanism that allows children to swing back and forth on a rope connecting from a cross beam. Swing sets are great for keeping children occupied. In this piece we will show step by step method on how to construct a wooden swing set from start to end. Wooden models are suggested because they are more durabele and do a better job at complimenting your background better than a iron one. Metal swings are prone to becoming rusty and pulling apart after being exposed exterior elements such as the changing weather. Required Tools: Line level Pencil Tape measure Circular saw Power drill and screwdriver attachment Speed square Framing square Carpenter's level 10' step ladder Protective clothing including safety glasses, dust mask and work gloves, Required Materials: (4) Metal A-frame brackets for 4" x 4" (2) Metal angle brackets for 2" x 4" (4) 1" x 4" x 8' common boards for holding the a-frames during assembly or a couple extra people to help you (1) 2" x 4" x 12' pressure treated board for a-frame cross member braces (1) 2" x 4" x 8' pressure treated board (4) 4" x 4" x 8' pressure treated boards (1) 4" x 4" x 16' pressure treated board 1 box of Galvanized screws 3 inch 1 box of Galvanized lag bolts 4 inch 1 box of Galvanized eye bolts, washers and nuts 5 inch 1 gallon of redwood paint or varnish 3 plastic swing seats with chains 2 trapeze bars with chains Instructions are as follows: 1. Select a suitable location in the yard where the swing set can be assembled. The spot must be out of danger and protected from objects which can result in harm. If an appropriate section is not already available then you might have to develop a location with dirt or gravel to level off a spot. 2. The first stage of the building process comprises of making the frame sides. You have to utilize the 4"x4"x8", 2"x4"x12" and the 2"x4"x8" parts of lumber to create the layout. Then cut the 2"x4"x12" into half and use both part to form the lower brace system for the a-frame. The 8" board will be employed as the top brace system and angle braces from the a-frame to the top cross section but first you have to cut it into four singular pieces, two should be 3" cuts and two should be 1" cuts these will be the angle support from the a-frame to the crossbeam and the 1" cuts will be at the top a-fame braces. 3. Now put the 8"x4"x4" boards into a shape by utilizing the other cut boards and fastening them together using the lag bolts. The top a-frame brace will go through the a-frame and the lower support will go on the exterior of the structure. So you will be connected by the lower brace into the upright a-frame supports and fasten by the upright a-frame supports into the top brace. 4. After assembling the a-frame, place it up and use the screw to join each piece of board to every section of the frame going into the converse direction. Then position the a-frame so that it is leveled and place an additional screw into the support piece so it stands on its own. Now repeat this process for the next a-frame and place the a-frames about 9 feet apart so the crossbeam lengthens out on each side by 2". 5. Use the 4" x 4" x 16' pressure treated board as the top cross section and put it up to so that it rests on top of the frames and go to the other side. Cautiously raise the top cross section so that it sits on the other a-frame and use the a-frame brackets to attach the crossbeam to the a-frames. 6. Use the remaining angle braces and place them on the opposite sides of the crossbeam angled down to fasten to the top brace of the a-frame. Now use the angle brackets to attach the braces and ensure that all your fasteners are firmly installed. 7. Now attach the swing and trapeze eye bolts on top of the swing. Just drill a hole on each side around two inches away from the end and then make another hole 18 inches from there for the trapeze bars. Drill a hole on each end of the angle brace about six inches from the brace and bore the other two holes 18 inches in from there. Now utilize the tape measure to measure the length and make two more holes 18 inches wide in the middle of the other two. This will give the space for three swings and two trapeze bars. 8. Now insert the eye bolts and hang the swings and trapeze bars. Determine the altitude of the swing depending on the age of your children. If you want to add more security you can also use a few anchor rods installed into the ground to secure the swing set into the earth. Tips and Warnings * Since the swing will be always be affected by external elements like weather and climate conditions It is recommended that you constantly employ pressure treated and galvanized lumber at all times. Pressure treated wood is specially produced to resist moisture, insects, infestation and rotting so the wood can last for years to come. * Since the pressure treated lumber is processed with very strong chemical preservatives you should always have on protective clothing while using paint or vanish after the job is finished. * An adult should always be available to watch over the kids when they are utilizing the swing set. Unforeseen incidents may occur. * Try inviting over a couple companions to assit you on your building project, this will make the work load much less strenuous so you can complete the job faster.
