Before book publishers actually take the plunge for a particular book and start the ball rolling with the publication of that book, you yourself have to be prepared and ready about being published. More often than not, if a writer isn't ready to publish, he or she will also be getting a rejection from an editor or a publishing company. No matter how good your work is, you might just be writing for your own pleasure. You can assess yourself and your work to see if you're ready to be published before you get a rejection from publishers, here's how.

Sit yourself down and think about the amount of work you've made. You might just have one finished story and in this case, you're not ready to face book publishers. With only one book done, you still don't have the necessary skills and confidence for becoming a writer. You're going to need to write more and get more experience if you want to succeed in the publishing industry. By chance you get lucky and publishers like what you send. What will you do if they ask for more work? You'll have to hustle to get another book written.

If you have produced a lot of novels and books, your second assessment relates to feedback. Did you show your work to someone? What kind of feedback did you get from them? This is all part of your growth and development for becoming a writer. You can't go on your own opinion with writing. At the very least, you need someone to look at your work checking for errors in spelling or grammar. If you've given some writers feedback, you can add that as a point to learning about your craft too.
