Aside from food production however, gardening is also useful in many ways such as improving the ambiance of one's surroundings by planting majestic trees and beautiful flowers.

Starting your own garden is not as complicated as you think it is. You can start a garden in your backyard and even on your rooftop if you don't have enough space. There are various choices when it comes to the types of plants that you want to grow. You can have a flower garden for aesthetic purposes, a vegetable or herb garden for a steady supply of fresh vegetables & fresh without frequently visiting the supermarket and lastly, a tree garden to give shade to the areas around your house which will drastically cut your air-conditioning cost.

Time and proper attention are two things that are very important in gardening. Make sure you have time to water the plants, time to cultivate and fertilize the soil and time to trim the branches and weeds. Give proper attention to the plants in your garden by making sure that they are safe from various pests which are bane to gardeners.

You also need the necessary gardening tools such as loppers, broom, trowel, lawnmower, sprinkler, rake, wheel barrow, pruning shears, garden hose and shovels. Even though it is common for a beginner in gardening to buy brand new gardening tools, to save money you can instead opt to buy used or second-hand gardening tools.

Lastly, it is important to arm yourself with ample knowledge on the variety of plants, fruits, flowers, vegetables and trees that are suitable for planting in you area. Research each variety of plants and determine how it can be grown, the pests that it should be protected from and the different pesticides available. Know the basic watering concepts, the different soil types, when to trim or prune the branches and the importance of removing the weeds around your plants.

Having a garden is quite a big responsibility but it can be fun, therapeutic, aesthetically rewarding and best of all, beneficial to the health.
