Education: Top Priority
Education is always an important key to a good future
. Since running for office in 2008, President Barack Obama has made education a priority issue for his administration. Scholarships and grants are only a small part of the education system makeover.
College expenses continue to increase even as the economy slumps. Schools don't offer scholarships to ever student to cover necessary expenses. Many young adults choose to forgo college because of the cost. Single moms are especially affected in a bad way. To put more educated minds in the workforce and ensure that families are cared for, it's important to educate moms. More scholarships for single moms is one way to improve the situation. Because of his efforts many people now refer to Federal Pell Grants as Obama grants. With these grants, college-bound students can receive over $5,000 to pay for school. Before Pell grants maxed out at about $4,000. With these grants for moms, they can pay for tuition, books or any other school-related expenses.
The American Opportunity Tax Credit is also a very valuable program. Under this incentive program, education costs up to $4,000 are cleared. The $4,000 grant is especially great for low-income students. Single moms often fall into this group, so these programs are particularly beneficial to them. Students have numerous school options: full-time or part-time, 2-year or 4-year college, multiple majors. With a few less money worries, more single mothers can attend college.
Obama's efforts to improve education show that he takes this issue seriously. The new stimulus package has some benefits for potential college students. There is more government emphasis on properly preparing students for their future at all levels of education. Another goal is to encourage more students to attend community colleges. Community colleges are more than a stepping stone on the way to a university. They are valuable institutions.
In 2007 Obama stated, "We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." The President has shown a good effort to support his words through action. Scholarships for moms are only a small part of the mission to help educate more people. If you're a potential student who wants to make education a priority, there are many chances for you to do so.
