An electric cigarette is a device that is powered by battery. It provides nicotine doses or non-nicotine vaporized solution. It is considered to be an alternative to tobacco products such as pipes, cigars and cigarettes. An electronic cigarette provides a physical feeling and a taste that is similar to inhaled tobacco smoke. The only difference in the case of an electronic cigarette is that there is no combustion process involved in the operation. It is seen that many people, who are addicted to smoking, are opting for electric cigarettes as they can be puffed on anywhere without using a lighter or ashtray. An electronic cigarette comes in a form of an elongated tube. These days one can get electronic cigarettes resembling real smoking products like cigarettes. One of the most common designs for electronic cigarettes is the pen style. It is so called as it resembles a ball point pen. Most of the electric cigarettes are designed with refillable and replaceable parts. These days, disposable cigarettes are available too. A Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik is the inventor of electric cigarettes. Regardless of designs, electric cigarettes have the similar components, including a rechargeable battery, a heating element and a mouthpiece. The components have been described as follows: 1. Battery - Most electric cigarettes have a lithium ion battery that is rechargeable. It is responsible for powering the heating element. Battery life differs and depends on the battery size and type, rate of use and environment of operation. The battery is usually the largest part of an electronic cigarette. 2. Heating element - This serves to vaporize the liquid stored in the mouthpiece and makes it easy to inhale. This section is also known as an atomizer. They last for about 3 to 6 months and can be easily replaced.

3. Mouthpiece - This is a small, plastic cup-like portion that is attached to the end of a tube. Inside this, there is a smaller plastic cup that stores an absorbent substance soaked with a flavored fluid solution. The inner cup is designed as such that air can easily flow around it. This facilitates the suction ability of a cigarette. The mouthpiece is often referred to as a cartridge in the industry. the liquid solution in the cartridge can be refilled.
