Electricity Blueprint - How Do Electric Generators Work
How do electric generators work? But first, what are generators? By definition, generators are useful appliances that supply electrical power during a power outage and prevent discontinuity of daily activities or disruption of business operations.

Contrary to popular belief, generators do not actually create electrical energy. Instead, generators utilize the mechanical energy that is supplied to it to force the movement of electric charges present in the wire of its windings through an external electric circuit. In other words, an electric generator only converts mechanical energy obtained from an external source into electrical energy as the output, and this output is constituted by the flow of electric charges that are present in the wire.
There are several types of generators, and the magnetic generator is just one of them. The mechanism by which magnetic generator works is this: As the magnetic poles turn on the rotor past the coils embedded in the stator, the a.c. voltage in each coil alternates in polarity, positive and negative. In effect, the magnets turn within the generator and thus actively create energy via their ability to attract and repel each other. The way it works is through the properties of a magnet, wherein the rule is opposite poles attract and like poles repel. What this motor does is to have some sort of dual attraction among three magnets. The third magnet pulls the different sides of the other two. These repelling and attracting forces generate rotational motion inside an electric permanent magnet motor.
The whole operation that an electric generator conducts is based off of electromagnetic induction. It is based on Michael Faraday?s principle that if an object or material that conducts electricity passes through a magnetic field, then an electric current will begin to flow through that material. With electric generators, that object is almost always made of some type of copper, normally a copper wire, which is one of the major components of an electric generator.
As you may very well see, there is a definite link between the phenomena of electricity and magnetism. This fact serves as the basis for which we answer the question ?how do electric generators work?.
