English Premiere League- Manchester United wins 3-2 over Liverpool
Manchester United was able to keep up its word and defeat Liverpool by a 3-2 margin in what could easily be considered one of the English Premiere League's classic matches.
There was very stable balance between the two teams. While Manchester United was dominant with the possession of the ball and kept making good plays in the front, Liverpool was able to put up a good defense and keep things under control.
Liverpool's defense was certainly a plus, as the guys from Manchester were really trying to make a first goal at Old Trafford Stadium. Despite the general impression of dealing with a very well-organized and capable team, Liverpool simply was not able to complete its plays once it got closer to Manchester's goal.
The game kept getting better by the minute and the fans in the crowds couldn't help but to chear for their favorite team.
Alex Ferguson, Manchester United's general manager, was able to come up with a very different game strategy then what he had shown in the previous match of the UEFA Champions League. His team was, against the odds, unable to surpass the Rangers. Ferfuson had decided to start the Mexican Javier Hernandez, a rookie in English Football, in what seemed like an easy game. This time around, and considering what a great team Liverpool is, Ferguson decided to change things around. He took down Hernadez from the starting eleven and brought in Dimitar Berbatov to take his place.
Ferguson's line-up included veterans such as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, while Berbatov was placed next to Rooney to complete quite a good duo on the offensive end.
Manchester's players kept pushing hard, opening spaces to shoot on goal. Pepe Reina, Liverpool's keeper had to really stay on top of his game to keep the Red Devils from making even more goals.
The local team missed many shots, but 42 minutes into the game, Berbatov was able to make it pass the solid defense and complete a beautiful header for Manchester's first goal.
Manchester United kept pushing hard, trying to expand the lead the players had created. They were keeping up with a very good rhythm at the beginning of the second half. Once again it was Berbatov the man in charge of putting in another goal. 59 minutes into the game he was able to complete his second goal of the match in a great individual play.
Liverpool began to organize its moves to try to open the score and return to the fight.
Local defender, Jonny Evans, fouled Spanish striker Fernando Torres inside the penalty box. Steven Gerrard scored from the penalty kick in the 64th minute. Just six minutes later and taking advantage of a defensive error, Gerrard gave his team a second goal.
When there were a few minutes left, Berbatov completed the third goal for Manchester. With this win Manchester United adds eleven points to its season mark and now seats first in the Premier League's team standings.
