Every School Will Eventually Use Green Cleaning Supplies

It seems that we have reached a point in our current society that going green is no longer a trend

, but rather an emerging standard in the janitorial products industry. The main reason is because green cleaning products have grown to be just as effective as traditional industrial cleaning supplies, but with way more upside. In the beginning, there were doubts about green products ability to perform when compared to traditional chemicals. In addition, it was apparent that going with green cleaning supplies would cost upwards of 20% more than the hazardous ones we have grown accustomed to. Nowadays, green cleaning products are not only considered to be cost neutral (and even less expensive in some cases), but they are also just as effective, if not more so, than the same cleaning products that can cause harm to our children in schools.

With that being said, it is only a matter of time before every school district adopts a system for environmentally friendly cleaning in their schools. Many states have even begun to implement bills, such as the Green Clean Schools Act, in order to encourage the use of environmentally friendly cleaning and maintenance products.

In addition to state mandated bills, organizations have been developed in order to usher in the new age of green cleaning in schools. One such organization that sets the standard for transforming schools is the Green Schools Initiative. Started in 2004, the Green Schools Initiative was founded by a group of parents/environmentalists that were wise enough to see how un-environmental schools have begun, and decided to take a proactive approach by doing something about it. Mostly relying on volunteers, the Green Schools Initiative works to improve the environmental health and ecological sustainability of U.S. schools by advocating for policies and plans to implement green cleaning supplies and maintenance products for schools.

Every school that makes the change to eco friendly cleaning products makes a big difference for their local environment, as well as the wellbeing of their school children. With the millions school children in over 150,000 schools across the nation, increasing their wellbeing should be top priority in order to preserve their health while enabling a higher quality of education. With the increasing number of benefits, decreasing costs, and increased awareness of the danger involved with using hazardous chemicals, it has become apparent that green cleaning products in schools will be the standard of the future.
