Its not surprising at all, given the size and strength of the Bull Mastiff breed dog that these were originally bred in the mid 1800's in England to protect large estates from theft. They were trained to chase and pin poachers without hurting them by mauling them. Faster and somewhat more aggressive than a Mastiff, however larger, but not as aggressive as a bulldog was the goal.

Surprisingly this large dog doesn't necessarily require a great deal of exercise. They are strong, silent (they bark very little) don't require a great deal of grooming, smart and very good natured. These gentle giants make very good family pets. They do very well in a house, even an apartment. As long as the dog realizes its strength and size and doesn't plow around like a bull in a china shop they can be a great fit for any home. It's like having a built in security system too, most tip the scales in excess of 100 pounds, and can reach up to 130. With this powerful pooch to stare down an intruder, they will appear quite intimidating.

To insure your dog has a safe place, and your place is safe you may want to look into an extra large dog house specifically for the Mastiff or Bull mastiff. Houses that are ideal give your dog the adequate space to enter turn around and lay down. Keep in mind their heads and chests are going to be considerably larger than other large breeds and to comfortable feel they can enter and relax once inside they need that extra large space. They also need to be of solid construction to face the elements, rain, snow, sleet, sun exposure long term and of course, a 130 pound dog.
