Face Lift Techniques: The Different Options Available Today

There are many different types of face lifts available depending on the desired results

. When you go in for your consultation, make sure to let your doctor know what type you are looking for, as this will help him or her to make the best decision regarding your surgery. From small results with minimal recovery time to a complete overhaul, this surgery can help you regain confidence in your appearance.

There are four main types of face lift. The first is a standard or lower type. This is done in one of two ways. The first way involves an S shaped incision made around the ear. The second is the same, but with a longer incision that begins in the temple area. The surgeon goes in and removes excess fat (sometimes also combining liposuction) and separates the skin from the underlying tissue. Then he or she will tighten the muscles and the skin and will close the incisions. This is for the lower parts of the face including the cheeks, jowls and neck area.

The second type is a mid face lift. This targets the cheeks and lower eyelids. Some incisions will be made in the muscle tissue and the doctor will tighten the area. The third type is a mini-lift. This is gaining in popularity because the recovery time is about one week. In this version, small incisions are made around specific areas. This is not recommended for people who want their foreheads or brows altered, as those require a more invasive procedure. However, the mini can get those hard areas and have you in and out of your doctor's office in no time.

The fourth type is called a thread lift. This method is for people experiencing minor signs of aging. It is a very radical approach to the surgery as it can be done without anesthetic. The way it is performed is that thread (either a traditional type or a clear polypropylene thread) is inserted through small incisions and is attached to muscles under the skin. The thread is then pulled to manipulate the positioning of the skin. Since you're awake for the procedure, you can see the results and talk with the surgeon during the surgery. When the threads are knotted, they disappear in the skin and leave little to no scarring.

The first three methods can also be done with endoscopy, or inserting small cameras into the areas in order to reduce scarring and enhance visibility during the surgery. Your doctor will go over all the different options with you and may be able to use computer imaging to show expected results with different methods. Whichever one you choose, you will soon be on your way to having a more youthful appearance and can gain confidence in the way you look.
