Also spending up to an hour on a treadmill or similar until you are exhausted is the worst thing you could do. The best way to exercise, if you want to burn fat, is to use what is known as intense resistance training. This method uses weights and slow deliberate movements. These movements work each muscle group in turn, pushing each to its limit quite quickly. This is the best way to promote lean muscle growth, and increase your metabolic rate. Taking short rest periods between exercise sets allow you to get a good cardiovascular workout at the same time.

You should do this workout no more than three times a week for maximum effectiveness, and as each set pushes the muscle it is working to its limit very quickly, and only needs to be done once, each session is quite short. This will stop you getting bored and save you time, making your exercise plan easier to maintain.
