Finding A Digital Camera - How To Pick The Right One

I want a digital SLR for when I go on vacation. Well, no, maybe getting it right now would be the best thing to do.

Do you have trouble with impulse buying? It's easy to get what you want when you want it. Well, most of the time. Naturally there are a few restrictions. But we do know how to manipulate our finances to get what we want.

However, when we get that "required" item using the impulsive buying method, a lot of times it comes up short of our hopes and desires.

So, I have some ideas for those of you who want that newest, most expensive digital camera.

Begin by evaluating your current haves.. that is, what do you have now. Then also evaluate your needs and camera expertise level.

It is actually possible that you don't need anything. Perhaps you have just what you need right there in your camera case. Here is the question you should ask yourself: "Is the camera I want going to give me more than I can get with my current camera?" If not, why do you need to upgrade?

Now that you have answered that question, let's make believe you answer, "Yes, it's time for a new camera."

You should then evaluate your needs and see if they match up with your wants. The next step should be a visit to your local camera shop. Carry a camera storage card along and ask if you can test the camera you have in mind to buy. Try it out, taking lots of shots, changing settings and testing the limits of what the camera is capable of. Do Not Buy This Camera... at least not on your first trip to the store.

Calmly remove your storage device and leave. When you get to your computer, upload the photos. Critically exam those images. Here's why. Initially it keeps you from an impulsive purchase that you may be very sorry you made. And secondly, it gives you time to be rational and purposeful about the camera in question.

Some questions really need to be answered about your camera test:

What about the photos? Do they meet your expectations? This is no time to deceive yourself. Was the camera easy to use? Or did you maybe resort to just shooting everything using the "auto" mode because the setting were too complicated for you?

With the answers to these simple questions, you are ready to do one of three things. (a) Scrap the whole idea of buying. (b) Hightail it back to the store and make the purchase. Or (c) Look for the best deal online.

Some places are better than others for buying cameras. And of course, some cameras are better than others even if the price is identical.

Whether your choice is for a compact digital or an SLR camera, the process can be the same.

Make your camera buying experience much more meaningful by getting the right camera for you. The very best camera for you is not necessarily the most expensive. You must match your needs with your abilities. If you just buy a camera because it is considered the best, you might just end up being very frustrated.
