Finding A New Career In A Recession
We all know how things are, in the world we live in today
. You don't want to read another article about the state of the economy and the general lack of financial security. Finding a new career in a recession doesn't have to be a stressful experience.
So how do you make finding a new career as painless as possible?
You are going to have to retrain no matter what you decide to do. There is no getting away from that fact. I could be wrong, but you are probably having a hundred and one things going through your mind. What sort of career help do you want to receive? How do you know that the economy would not affect that one the same as your present career? How will you maintain your current standard of living?
Retraining in 99% of courses available would mean starting again at the bottom of the pile. You would have to climb the rungs of your chosen industry to reclaim the lifestyle you are accustomed to now. How long this would take would depend on the new career, or industry, and therefore the course that you would need to study to give you the qualifications or training you would need.
There are two issues then here.
Firstly, finding a new career means deciding on a course that is not going to take too long to complete. Does it feel like you are sitting on a ticking time bomb where at any point you could be told that you will be losing you job?
Secondly, once you have the skills or training to be able to work within your new chosen industry, you need to consider how long it is going to take you to achieve the same income you are presently making, or more.
A wise move to get help finding a new career in a recession would be to choose an industry that is immune to the effects of the recession. In other words, recession-proof. Take 10 minutes to sit down with a notepad and write down as many answers as you can to this question:
What do people value most when economic times are hard?
Are you ready for the obvious answer? The skills and knowledge to be able to generate additional or greater income. There are a lot of people who want to know how they can make more money. If you could retrain and gain the skills needed to provide the solution to this all-too-common problem, then you would discover that finding a new career can actually be a very exciting prospect. Downturns in the economy divide those that suffer financially and those who can position themselves in the right way by providing a solution to peoples' needs.
