The colour is important too, if you're trying to disguise your size somewhat. Don't go for pale colours as these are not nearly as flattering as dark ones. Go for black, dark blue, dark green or purple to create a "thin" look.

In terms of the waistband, a higher waist, particularly in a stretch material, will help to hold your stomach in but may not be as comfortable when you're sitting down as a lower cut waist. Whatever you do don't choose your plus size designer jeans just to look fashionable; comfort is just as important.
