Even the batteries of flashlights must be checked weekly, including verifying the workability of fire extinguishers and fire hoses and fire hose cabinets. Fire pumps and other motor devices in the building should also be checked and run for at least for half an hour each week to confirm their workability.

Monthly tests should also be undertaken on emergency lighting system wirings and connections and these tests should strictly adhere to the installer's specifications. Fire doors should be repaired for any defects and damages, making sure that the said doors have intact frames and are properly sealed. Tests and checks done on a semi-annual or yearly basis must include the more complex fire protection systems and should be more comprehensive and detailed. As such, these tests must be conducted by licensed professional fire safety experts only.
