Five Great Ideas For A Sparkling New Kitchen
When it comes to improving the looks and functionality of a kitchen
, there are many different steps that can be taken. For those homeowners who simply want a more efficient way of accessing work spaces and appliances alike, deciding to redo the layout of the area can be just the same as investing in entirely new objects. For others, it's a matter of sprucing things up. Changing colors, figuring out a new decor method; all of these possibilities can really make a difference in the long run, and many of them don't require a contractor or the knowledge of a complicated home renovation project.
For those creative and handy homeowners--and for those who might not be that great with a hammer but who know that it's time to change things up a little bit--here are five great ways to make your kitchen sparkle like it never has before, using space well and with a minimal cost to your budget.
#1 - Restructure the pantry. For those who have kitchens with spacious pantries, sometimes finding goods when cooking can pose a bit of a problem. Otherwise, there's the matter of shelving not being quite right for you and your family, but having worked well for whoever lived there before. Having the right organizational space inside of a pantry, rather than simply dealing with size and appearance, can make a major difference in a kitchen.
#2 - Make sure there's sufficient light, if possible, natural light. Ditching nasty fluorescent overhead lighting in every room of every home is a great idea, because it never flatters anyone and is only necessary when working on projects. In the kitchen, starting by trying to open the home to more natural lighting is key, with windows allowing for a calmer and more natural experience.
#3 - Change up the colors. Slapping a simple coat of new paint on--in a shade that's lighter, like a lovely pale yellow or sky blue--can make a kitchen feel larger, improve the moods of everyone in it, and be a nice way to put a new spin on an old standard. Just be sure that it's not going to require a bunch of reupholstering chairs and other types of furniture.
#4 - Invest in a few new appliances. Sometimes, it's not a home renovation that's necessary; it's getting a few better devices to make sure that a job is done. And the best way to do this is to figure out what you do in the kitchen the most that could use a little help, and go for the object that actually provides the help. For those active households that need more freezer space to store meals, getting a new refrigerator/freezer is a good idea. Anyone mad about juice might want a juicer. Think about what your household uses, and go in that direction.
#5 - Ditch the old-school cabinets for something more contemporary. This only works if you're not in a country-style kitchen, but the opening and closing of doors can lead to more clutter than it's worth. Sometimes, it's a far better idea to get rid of cabinets above the sink and counter areas, and to go instead with minimal shelving, which appears more contemporary while also allowing for easier access and less time for clutter. Investing in more stylish cabinets is also always a nice idea.
