Step 1: Eat complex carbohydrates especially in the morning. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so you should never skip it. This is also why you need to eat foods with complex carbohydrates, which are digested more slowly by the body and can thus help you feel fuller for a much longer time. Foods with complex carbohydrates include whole wheat bread, bran products, and other whole grain products.


Step 2: Try to eat beans and legumes instead of meat products. Because of their protein content, legumes and beans are good substitutes of protein sources. If you really want to eat meat, then choose the lean cuts such as sirloin or pork loin. Skinless chicken and turkey are also better.

Step 3: Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. These foods contain fiber, minerals, and vitamins, which are beneficial for your body. Thus, eat lots of fruits and vegetables during the entire day.

Step 4: Take some salmon and tuna because they contain omega 3 essential fatty acids (the good fats) that are good for your heart and can help avoid heart diseases. People with diabetes have a higher risk of developing heart diseases.

Step 5: Drink water and diet drinks. Avoid carbonated drinks and other drinks that are loaded with refined sugar. Choose those that contain artificial sweeteners instead.
