Four Killers That Just Plague Motivation

One of the major roles within motivation is attitude

. Having a positive attitude and outlook in general is like nourishment for motivation's soul. It is up to you to keep motivation healthy and well nourished. This all begins with your own personal attitude. Negativity is all around us, but it is up to the individual to find their own personal balance. Once the individual learns to balance the positive and negative influences that are all around - the world becomes your oyster and you are its pearl!

1) Goal Oriented Targets: Set goals that are attainable and achievable. One of the greatest killers to motivation is when something seems unattainable or when a planned action falls directly on its face. If you set attainable goals you are less likely to fail, and your success will create a positive feeling that helps motivate your motivation.

2) Excuse me Mr. Excuse: Excuses are reasons why you have become discouraged and have seemingly lost all motivation. For every excuse or reason why not that your mind can imagine, you can think of other more positive reasons to excuse that excuse. The forward momentum of motivation dies at the birth of an excuse.

3) The Unseen Pothole: One of the major killers of motivation is the little potholes along the road, we tend to turn them into bottomless caverns and use them as the reasons why things didn't work out. We all know it is the little things that kill, but unforeseen events are part of our natural world, and letting a little pothole stop your Hummer of motivation - that's just crazy!

4) Not What I thought: Sometimes we imagine that things will move along simply and perfectly, like we have planned. Then the final results come in, and it is not at all what you thought. This is where many people mistakenly just give in and call it a day. If things are not what you thought they would be, you can't let that kill motivation. It is up to you to look at how you got those results and change your approach. Remember, sometimes the smallest change can have the greatest affects. This is true in nature, just look at the disappearing bees. A small creature that affects our world drastically. With one small change, the pollination of our ecosystem collapses. Motivation is your little bee; don't let it disappear because it is not what you thought!

These four killers plague motivation like a disease. The thing is that the cure can easily be found in your attitude. If you are willing to give up, then my friend, your motivation will keel over and die. If you push on through, then the world will become your oyster and you shall be the beautiful pearl inside!
