When taking a quick picture, be sure to take lots of pictures as you can to ensure that you can choose the best picture soon after.

Simplicity

Pictures look too crowded - this is common among beginners. Having a ""crowded"" photo will confuse the viewers on which the subject is. If you want to be a good photographer, try making your photos as simple as you can. Keeping your images simple will prevent disturbances and make your subject easier to notice.

Zooming

Viewers love looking at pictures that are zoomed. What you should do is take a picture of your subject and try to get closer or zoom in to your subject and take a picture. Taking a bigger picture of your subject lets your viewer see the specifics of your image clearly and more in depth. Placement

This is one more very important thing to keep in mind when taking photos. Most photographers who are just starting out would generally place their subject on the center each time they take a picture. Try playing with your subject's placement. Make sure that you remember to apply the rule of thirds.

The rule of the thirds is a very popular technique that most photographers implement. The rule goes like this: imagine that your screen is split into three, both horizontally and vertically. Then place your subject close to one of the lines. What is important to remember about this is that, the eyes are the most important part of the subject and should be placed closest to the lines.

However, photographers should not overuse this rule. Look at it as your guide. If your image does not apply the rule of the third but still looks good then take a shot of it.
