Four Things To Do To Ensure You Stick To Your New Year Fitness Resolution
One of the most popular New Year resolutions that people of all ages make across the world is to lose weight and increase their fitness levels.
Whilst some people will no doubt achieve their goals, there are plenty who simply don't succeed.
Their intentions are fantastic for the first few weeks of the new year, but as soon as temptation rears its head more than once or twice, they cave in and from then on it's a slippery slope back to unhealthy eating and a lack of exercise.
If you think that you're going to be making the resolution to lose weight and increase your fitness levels in the next few weeks for 2011, there are four things that you can do to ensure that you stick to your resolution right throughout the year.
1. Start planning now - if you make your resolution to get fit and lose weight on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, you're giving yourself next to no time to prepare.
You've got the majority of the constant eating and heavy drinking during the festive period over with, but as you haven't spent time preparing, you enter the resolution at the deep end, often not knowing what it is that you exactly need to be doing.
Start now, head down to some gyms to get a feel for prices and begin to look at diet plans - the more leg work you can do now, the easier it will be in January.
2. Don't give yourself a hard time constantly - losing weight and getting fit isn't something that everyone can do easily and whilst you have to be strict and motivated, if you're finding the process difficult or you're not seeing a lot of progress, don't give yourself a hard time.
Everyone's body reacts differently to a change of diet and increased levels of exercise, so you shouldn't worry too much if you're not losing as much weight as you would have hoped - as long as you're not putting on weight, you're heading in the right direction and the rest will come with time.
3. Measure your progress weekly - the best way to ensure that you keep motivated is to record and measure your progress on a weekly basis so that you can see how far you've come and just what you've got to do to ensure you reach your goal.
4. Have your target displayed prominently - just as having your progress on display is important so that you can see how you're doing, it's a great idea to have your final target displayed somewhere prominently.
Write it down and put it on the fridge, on your work desk, in the bathroom, at the bottom of your bed - wherever you're going to see it regularly to ensure that it always stays in your mind and you never forget it.
It might seem like a small point, but the more you see your goal, the more likely you are to work towards it and not stray from your journey.
