Fresh For 2010-the Nokia N8

Nokia have announced details of their latest mobile handset

, the N8. And on paper this looks set to be THE mobile phone release of 2010 thanks to the hugely impressive list of specifications and features.

Measuring 113.5 x 59.1 x 12.9 mm and weighing 135 grammes, the dimensions are fairly standard smartphone dimensions, however that is where the similarities end. The screen on the Nokia N8 is a 3.5" capacitive touchscreen boasting a very high resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The AMOLED screen is capable of displaying over 16 million colours and is also constructed of a scratch resistant material, useful in these days of 18 and 24 month contracts! The screen also supports multi touch and incorporates an accelerometer chip for auto rotate functions.

One of the features that immediately grabs you about the Nokia N8 is its extremely high quality camera function. Breaking away from the 5-8 million pixels that has become the standard for modern phones, Nokia have gone with a massive 12 mega pixel unit for this model, an undoubtedly this will prove a wise decision when it comes to the results. A Xenon flash is fitted to the camera, enhancing the results in poorer light and autofocus and zoom add further to the attractiveness of this unit. Perhaps not as immediately appealing but certainly a key feature is the choice to fit Carl Zeiss optics to the unit, these lens are renowned for the clarity and colour reproduction they achieve. Video footage can also be captured in High Definition quality of 720P at 25 frames per second. Once again the inclusion of HD really makes this unit stand out, and the fact that it is backed up by a video light and a secondary video call camera is both useful and appealing. HDMI connections also make it to a mobile handset on this model, meaning the handset is easily linked to any HD television.

Social Networking has been accounted for on the Nokia N8 by the inclusion of both Facebook and Twitter on the home screen. In fact all on line activity is a breeze on the N8 thanks to WiFi, WLAN, EDGE and GPRS amongst the networks supported. The handset runs on Symbian 3.0 operating system and everything is powered along by a 680MHZ processor. The 1200mAh battery provides the user with up to 400 hours in standby or 5.5 hours of actual talktime. If you would rather look at it from a point of view of audio playback, then it equates to over 50 hours.

The Nokia N8 gives us plenty to look forward to with its forthcoming release. The brilliant camera and screen obviously standout but everything else featured on this handset adds to the eager anticipation. This certainly looks like the smartphone to own in 2010.
