Fresh for 2010 - The new iphone 4
At long last, the iPhone 4 looks set to hit the shelves very soon. And a look at this impressive handset justifies much of the hype that is currently surrounding it.
For the first time in three years, this new iPhone models see not only a change in features and specification, but also a new direction in regards to cosmetics. Anybody who owns an iPhone will tell you that it is the best looking phone available, however a glance at this new model will make the majority change their minds. Shaving some millimetres off the overall width and depth, the measurements 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3mm make the handset look more compact without and sacrifice on screen size. The curved edges found on previous models have been dispensed with, and replaced with a more straight and flat profile. This means the phone can actually be stood on its side, actually a useful feature with regards to taking photos or shooting video footage. Perhaps the most marked improvement on its predecessors it in the screen. Boasting a fantastic resolution of 960 x 640 pixels, the screen is streets ahead of its competitors, well on paper at least. The 800:1 contrast ratio improves colour reproduction on the screen, and the figure is four times the ratio found on the already impressive 3GS. The glass screen has been chemically treated to improve durability, and this includes against scratches, and the manufacturers are so impressed with this that the same glass is featured on the rear of the unit, not only improving the all round durability but giving it a glossy and stylish look, especially with the metal trim sandwiched between the front and back.
The iPhone 4 sees an improvement in battery life that some will argue was the downside to previous models. Thanks to the improved power management of the phones A4 processor coupled with a larger battery has resulted in the unit offering up to to 300 hours of standby and 7 hours of talktime, which is a 40% improvement. Connectivity is well covered on the unit with 3G, GSM and Edge all ensuring that even when on the move the phone can be used to its full potential. When at home then WiFi gives the user the quickest and most satisfying browsing experience. One of the major attractions of the iPhone is not found on the handset itself, but in the superb iTunes, which offers the user a stunning array of applications that range from games to news and about every conceivable genre in between. The iPhone 4 certainly promised much, and looks set to deliver thanks to some excellent improvements from the developers and some nice looking improvements with regard to design.
