Goa: Unique Beach Experience

Goa is a place, so little in size and though it looks very conventional as a beach

, it has a charm which you will not be able to find in any other beach destination in the world. The vigor and sparkle in the air and lethargy in the atmosphere is something specific to Goa only. Goa is the smallest state of India with beautiful beaches lined throughout the coast from north to south. The region is surrounded by parts of Maharashtra in the north and regions of Karnataka to its east and south. The Arabian Sea lies to its west and this makes it obvious why Goa experiences a humid climate for most times of the year. Goas beaches are well known as one of the best in the world and main income of the economy comes from its tourism industry. Goa along with its coastal neighbouring regions forms a culture called the Konkan culture, which is unique from that of the rest of the country. Northern parts of Goa are city oriented and southern sections are afforested. Besides beaches, one can locate coconut trees and paddy fields in the region. The Portuguese influence on Goa also accounts for its uniqueness of nature.

Goa was ruled by the Portuguese Empire a long time ago and this continued for almost 450 years until the region was gifted by the Portuguese to the prince of the British Empire. The British Empire by then had already started ruling certain parts of the country. The Portuguese have left deep traces of their past stay in Goa. This can be visible in the architecture of its buildings and churches and also the flavor of their food. To Catholic Christians, Old Goa is the place where St Francis Xavier was buried. Just like Christmas and New Year are events celebrated enthusiastically, the Feast of St Francis is also celebrated with splendor. Laid back atmosphere, delectable sea food and a number of water sports such as water-scooters, skiing and sailing, put together, are what describe Goa best. Calanguteand Baga are visited quite often while Arambol,Anjuna,Candolim andColva are other popular beaches in the region.

Panaji and Margao are Goan town that are heavily influenced by Portuguese culture. Old Goa was known for its cathedrals and Ponda has many hindu temples which are believed to have been built somewhere from 15th to 18th centuries. Goa has an international airport in Dabolim, which sits 29 kilometers away from the state capital, Panaji. Goa sees maximum crowd during the months of November, December, January and February. Sonesta Inns, Candolim Beach in Panjim, Tony Cottages & Coco Huts in Palolem and Pearls Oceanique Resort in Colva are some good Goan resorts.
