HAPPINESS? But how in Nigeria?

HAPPINESS? But how in Nigeria?

HAPPINESS? But how in Nigeria?

A COUNTRY ABOUT TO EXPLODE

From the rising of the sun to its setting. Life is a gradual development. It demands of us our goal as human beings. Happiness is as a result of fulfillment towards an end which gives purpose and aim to our lives. It is said that happiness is not meant to be pursued but rather ensues, that is, it flows from another. For instance; a 3rd year medical student derives joy and is happy if he passes his 3rd MBBS in 1 sitting!!! His happiness is as a result of the goal accomplished which has value and not because he was seeking to be happy in writing the exam. This seems to be the opposite with things in Nigeria. Man whose happiness depends on another and not on how much one makes or the value one has, has replaced this "transcendence" by a sense of self accomplishment which stresses the individual as opposed to the group. What then makes us different from other lower animals? Man's life has meaning because of a few things amongst which are; a goal to be achieved for which all he does develops a meaning, love which demands service e.t.c. This is not so with the Nigerian.

A recent experience will shed more light on this. Is Nigeria's problem that of the government or the individual? Many say it's the government. One might have cause to agree but going a bit deeper, individuals make up government and each person in government has a will of his own without which he would be a "Zombie". Then you would ask, are we ruled by zombies. Well yes and no. Yes because we as Nigerians have let our humanity be replaced by individuality such that one's first thought in any given circumstance is always how to satisfy himself. Those in authority are no different. Self accomplishment, which Nigerians have been drinking copiously from neglects the true humanity of man and makes him see only himself. Whoever created "humanity" is not a fool for he did not create "1 man" but "many men" nor "1 woman" but "many women". Could it be that the world would be a better place if each one faces himself and fulfills all his desires in spite of its effects on others. A friend of mine in Lagos when I asked him what his favorite book was said "the 48 laws of power". If you have ever come across this book, it is what I call a "mental hypnosis". Its bottom line is to dominate others, subdue them and never let others achieve their potential. What can be more contradictory? No, because we are humans after all. We are responsible for the actions we take. An act towards virtue is an act towards being more human and vice versa. Thus we become like zombies but worse in that we voluntarily decide to place our lower senses above the higher. Who in his senses would use a basket to fetch water other than a basin? But this is always the case. Without this self realization, Nigeria will one day explode.

The immensity of atrocities which suffocates Nigeria is simply a problem of their not knowing their left from their right. All we have have been received in a platter of gold and as such no one cherishes it. The way billions are spent and no questions asked is baffling. In my opinion, Nigeria will become sensible, that is, the citizens only when this country self destructs. The time bomb is in place, the time is ticking. It's only a matter of time. Brace up for what most probably will befall us. What do you think?
