High Temperature Sealing Solutions Through Innovation

The recent development in technology leads us to introduce the usage of perfluoroelastomers

and other high performance elastomers for excellent high temperature sealing solutions with high performance and enhanced functionality. If a seal is held at a high temperature for a longer period of time, the elastomers will deteriorate gradually. In turn, the compression and set and volume will change. The hardness of the elastomers alters in two stages. In first stage, the seal will become softer. This may result in flow of elastomer through the clearance gap. Second, if the seal becomes too hot, the subsequent chemical changes will occur with the elastomer and then it will become harder.

In order to make the seal both heat resistant and chemical resistant, the selection of right material is of utmost importance. Here, comes the role of perfluoroelastomers and high performance elastomers that provide enhanced efficiency for high temperature sealing. These seals offer high temperature stability and outstanding chemical resistance. It also supports excellent mechanical qualities. These high performance elastomers are FDA, USP Class VI and 3A compliance.

This high temperature sealing results in increased in-service seal life-time and thus in turn improved sealing performance. There are other benefits associated with high temperature sealing such as increased machine/equipment output, reduced machine/equipment downtime, optimized process conditions, reduced process contamination, and reduced cost of ownership.

These high performance perfluoroelastomers used have been especially developed for high temperature sealing and are capable of functioning at temperatures up to 325C (617F) and 320C (608F) respectively, whilst maintaining outstanding chemical resistance. These elastomers contain superior mechanical properties that set them apart from ordinary high temperature perfluoroelastomers. Their low compression set characteristics implies that they are capable of retaining their chemical resistance in spite of being mechanically frazzled. It results in reduction in the effectiveness of stree-induced chemical attack and thus extended seal life in high temperature sealing applications.
