History & Innovations Of Breitling Luxury Watches
Breitling is a luxury brand of Swiss Watches produced by Breitling SA
, a private company headquartered in Grenchen, Canton of Solothurn. The company exclusively offered Certified Chronometers in all models since 2000. Watches are usually oriented towards three categories: Diving (SuperOcean), Aviation (Navitimer), and Luxury (Breitling for Bentley).
Aviation models such as the Navitimer offer aviation functions largely as complications. The styling of Breitling watches is characterized by polished cases and bracelets and large watch faces which are intended to improve readability. Many models feature an automatic winding mechanism that is purely mechanical using no electronic components and often feature complications.
All Breitling watches are manufactured in Switzerland and are made from Swiss components
Breitling was founded by Lon Breitling in 1884 in St Imier with the specific purpose to build chronographs and counters for scientific and industrial use.
In 1892, to take care of to the unstoppable growth of his company, Lon Breitling decides to relocate his workshops to La-Chaux-de-Fonds, metropolis of the Swiss watch industry in those days. Louis Breitling dies in 1914 and left the company for his son Gaston Breitling. One year later, Breitling created the first wristwatch chronograph.
The company went on to make several essential developments in this area and supplied the first wristwatch instruments to aviators. By 1923, Breitling produced the independent chronograph push piece. Gaston's son, Willy Breitling overtook command of the firm in 1932 and in 1934 Breitling added a second push piece to the chronograph allowing either cumulative or incremental time recording giving the chronograph its current setting.
In 1936 Breitling has become the official provider to the Royal Air Force. Breitling launched the Breitling Chronomat in 1942 - the first chronograph to be fitted with a circular slide rule. The company also widens its customers to include the American armed forces. 1954 witnessed the creation of the Breitling Navitimer, a wrist instrument equipped with the well-known "navigation computer". This extraordinary chronograph became the favourite among the pilots globally. By that time, Breitling was already providing the major international airlines with cockpit clocks. In 1962, the astronaut Scott Carpenter wore the Breitling Cosmonaute chronograph during his orbital flight on-board the Aurora 7 space capsule. Along with Baren and Heuer-Leonidas, Breitling invented the self-winding chronograph in 1969. This technical accomplishment has represented a crucial breakthrough for the entire Swiss watch industry. Will Breitling dies in 1979. The company was subsequently bought by Ernest Schneider.
For its 100th year anniversary, Breitling introduced the Breitling Chronomat which would later become Breitling's best selling line in the collection. In 1985, the Aerospace, a titanium multi-function electronic chronograph, fascinated the attention of a large number of pilots and 10 years later, Breitling presented the Breitling Emergency, with a inherent micro-transmitter transmitting on aircraft emergency frequency. In 1999, Breitling concluded the flourishing century with the ambitious bet of subordinating the totality of its production to the Swiss Official Chronometer Control. In 2000, Breitling started out in Grenchen, Switzerland, its new headquarters. A year later, with the release of the Breitling SuperQuartzTM , Breitling proposed a mechanism ten-fold more accurate than the standard ones due to its electronic mechanisms which are the only that fulfill the criteria of COSC.
In 2002, Breitling Chronometrie, a unit specializing in the making of mechanical chronograph movements, is established in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the town where Leon Breitling established his first chronograph manufacturing plant 110 years earlier.
