Afterall you do need an office to work in and that room should be comfortable and professional looking at the same time.

The type of furniture you will add to your home office depends mostly on the size of the room you are converting into an office space. Of course your available budget is also a major factor. However if you have a small room, you won't be able to add many bulky and huge furniture pieces. You will need to go with something sleek, small and modern. There are many compact desks that you can get at a good price and they will be perfect for a small office space. Also when it comes to chairs, you can buy armless chairs that can be easily pushed under the computer desk for getting that extra space in the room.

When buying your new furniture, make sure that you don't buy too many things. You want to have plenty of space available for free movement around the room. You don't want to bump yourself in every furniture piece on a regular basis. Of course the minimum you will need are the office table and chair, a computer desk, shelves, drawers and filing cabinets and maybe an extra chair for visitors.

Besides the furniture, you also need to take care of the ambient of your office. For example what colors you will have in the space will greatly determine how motivated you will be while working and how much (or little) you will be distracted from the task at hand. You can go with warm colors, such as oranges or yellows or cooler colors such as green and blue. However some of these might be a bit distracting. Many people prefer going with light pastel colors for their walls, including light yellow or even plain white.

Proper illumination is also important. Having a good desk lamp that can be easily positioned on your desk will give you lots of lighting. Also you can have various accent lights if you want additional sources of illumination. It is important that your work space has plenty of light while working.
