House Painter Daytona Beach - 9 Simple Steps To Follow When Looking For A Painter

Your house is a big investment

Your house is a big investment. So you want to protect it. In this article you will find 9 simple steps to follow when hiring a painting contractor. Even though it was written for those living in the Daytona Beach area the rules still apply. So follow these rules and protect yourself and your home.

1. Check to make sure that the contractor has a current contractor"s license. People who are only willing to work on weekends may be moonlighting without a license. Licensed contractors are full-time professionals.

2. In the Daytona area you will not need a permit if you're having a residential property painted. If you live in a development with a homeowners association you may have guidelines that need to be followed. Check with your homeowners association for their rules and guidelines. If you are having a commercial property painted you will need a permit. Have your contractor obtain the needed permits. Contractor's who are in good standing will always obtain the permits. If the contractor asks you to obtain the permits or has someone else obtain them then you may not dealing with a reputable contractor.

3. Good contractors will offer a written contract. Contractor's who offer you only a verbal contract and are not willing to put all the terms of the contract in writing should be avoided. You should never accept an oral only agreement.

4. Quality contractors can provide proof of insurance. Contractors who are licensed must have general liability, workers" compensation, and property damage insurance in effect at all times. Ask your contractor to provide proof of insurance.

5. Ask for references, you want to receive a minimum of three references.

6. Ask how long they have been in business.

7. Get at least three other bids for your job. This will help to insure that they will not rip you off.

8. Get an all inclusive estimate so you know the total you will pay beforehand. If you change things during the job you will more than likely incur additional costs. It is best to know what you want before you receive final pricing.

9. Check for complaints. Contact the Better Business Bureau to find out if there are any complaints against the painters you are considering. You can also check Angies List at www.AngiesList.com to see what others have to say about this person. If a painter has good reviews on Angies List then it is a good bet they will do good work for you too. You can also check with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations at 850-487-1395
