How Does a Digital Press Work with Finishing Support from the Servo 3000?
A digital label press provides a number of advantages for the printer
. With digital printing, images and text are printed directly from computer to substrate. Because printing plates are not required every print can be different and there is typically no need to bring the print run "up to color" and check for position and web registration. Using a digital label press for short runs and printing prototypes is typically very cost effective because there less initial setup.
Once a digital label press has printed a run of labels it is necessary to die cut, strip, and laminate the labels.
Finishing a digital label press job can use the more complete press technology of a Flexo press. Because a standard Flexo press is used for finishing as well as printing it can be an option in die cutting, stripping, and laminating labels done on a digital label press. The issue is precise web re-registration by the Flexo press.
The use of a precise servo mechanism such as the Servo 3000 press upgrade provides will allow a printer to use an existing Flexo press for finishing work on digital label press work. This easy to attach accessory not only upgrades standard Flexo press performance but saves the printer the cost of a new, stand alone finishing machine which will only get used for finishing digital label press work.
A Flexo press equipped with the Servo 3000 Digital Infeed + Re-register system made by Rotary Technologies becomes more versatile, experiences less waste both in setup and running, and can print on a wide range of substrates due to its precise web re-registration and web tension control due to its advanced servo infeed system. Using the Servo 3000 allows a press to re-register the web for work done on the same on other presses, fix mistakes, print more colors, print multilayer labels, and more. An existing Flexo press armed with the Servo 3000 upgrade can be used to re-register work from a digital label press, die cut, and laminate and at speeds substantially faster than that of the digital press.
The digital press adds flexibility to the print shop with its ability to print short runs with less setup and to allow the computer to change design even in mid run. The use of the Servo 3000 on a standard press also adds flexibility in that it can finish digital print work in addition to allowing a standard press to print more colors, print on a wider variety of substrates, and efficiently do tough jobs such as printing multi layer labels on its own. A Servo 3000 assisted Flexo press is similar to a digital press in that it reduces setup waste and running waste when compared to a standard press.
