How To Build A Wooden Storage Shed And Rid Yourself Of Clutter

You have finally decided to build yourself a wooden storage shed. Although it will be a necessary addition to your property, it is a little intimidating, especially to a beginner. There is always that fear that you may not be able to do it right. Having someone else do it might not be an option, plus you will save money by doing it yourself. Many do have the skills to create their own wooden storage shed, but sometimes they forget to ensure that their shed is secure and durable.

History has taught us that time and again, it is best to have a plan, a detailed plan. This goes with building your shed as well. Having a detailed plan will take out any guess work while you are building your shed. Plus, it will save you money on gas because you will not have to run to the home improvement store for something you forgot or did not think about before. How many of us has been there before? There is nothing like being interrupted or having to stop working because we forgot something or ran out of something. So have a plan!

After you have made your plans and have them in your hand, there are a few other things that you will need to do before beginning to build your wooden storage shed. First, you have to know where you are to build your shed. Choose level land areas and check that there are no cables, wires, or pipes running beneath it. Next, check to see what your zoning laws are like. You can do this by visiting your local planning and zoning commission and showing them your plans.

Once those are taken care of, you can begin building.

Gather all the materials that you will need to build your shed. The wood of course is the most important. You will also need tools such as a hammer, saw, nails, hinges, roof tacks and shingles. Measure your wood and cut them according to your plans. If you have chosen to use a concrete foundation, prepare the cement.

As with any structure, you always begin building from the bottom. Start with your floor deck, then move onto your walls, windows, doors and lastly, the roof. Make sure that your framing is secure. Drive a solid stake into the ground so that you have a strong post to attach your frame to.

Use as many nails as it takes to securely fasten and attach all parts of your wooden storage shed. Wiggle and shake your walls to see if they are secure and that there are no gaps. If you find any weak points, strengthen them. After the framing is checked for durability, your roof can be built. You will want to choose a roofing material that will be able to withstand the weather in your area. It would not be good if the roof caved because of heavy snow or hail.

If necessary try to use as many wooden pillars as you would need to ensure that your wooden storage set is secure and durable. Remember, the bigger your shed is, the more pillars it would need.
