First off, I believe that what you eat is the major contributor in how much weight you can lose. After all, if you workout like a maniac, but then go home and binge on highly processed foods all day, you're going to gain weight no question.
But after you start eating healthier, lots of activity will help you burn fat off your body extra fast, and doing things you enjoy will make it that much easier. When you dread going to the gym to workout, you're actually working against yourself. The only way you're going to lose weight permanently is by finding exercises that you enjoy, not by grinding your teeth through every workout because you heard it was the best.
The real best exercise is having fun while you move. You don't have to go to the gym 4 times a week to get exercise, instead make a list of activities that you enjoy that require movement. You may be overlooking ways to exercise because you're so focused on your "serious workouts."
Instead relax and have fun while you do enjoyable activities. You'll be much more likely to stick to an exercise plan that you enjoy, and working out will be something you look forward to, not a task that you dread.
